Patrycja Nzounza
Augmented Beauty Sr research engineer - L'Oréal

With a PhD in Virology from Denis Diderot University, Patrycja NZOUNZA has built 14 years of robust experience in industrial research. Her background includes strategic collaborations with leading institutions such as the CEA and the Institut Pasteur. Driven by an early career focus on antigen optimization within an innovative start-up environment, Patrycja developed a strong, specialized expertise in cutting-edge vaccine delivery technologies. This enabled her to transition to L'Oréal Research & Innovation, where she implemented those biophysical techniques directly transposed from the medical field to applications for skin and scalp. Ever since, Patrycja has continued to grow her expertise in L'Oréal "Augmented Beauty" domain, which purpose is to provide consumers with technological solutions complementary to topical approaches thus unlocking new levels of performance.
Presentation
When electricity meets beauty
In our current digital and tech-savvy society, consumer demand for efficacy is driving the emergence of new needs in the beauty industry: the boom in aesthetic procedures and the rise of devices based on physical stimuli for improved skin and hair performance. At the frontier between consumer electronics and medical devices, these tools deliver various forms of energy to the targeted tissue. Electrotherapy, in particular, is one of the most widely adopted technologies for both at-home use and in aesthetic/derm cabins. The electric current in cosmetic applications aims either at enhancing the bioavailability of active ingredients inside the skin or at activating biological functions in the skin or scalp (cell or muscle stimulation, tissue regeneration, ATP synthesis, etc).
This keynote will present the main characteristics of the most popular electric-based technologies with their expected physical and biological effects, illustrated by clinically proven benefits. Perspectives on new indications and other disruptive approaches in this field will also be discussed.

L'Oréal was born from science, from a vision, created from the idea of a chemist. Since then, science has remained at the heart of our model with our Research & Innovation. It is without a doubt, the performance, safety and superior quality of our products that have been the foundation of our success for over 115 years. Every day, +4,000 scientists in 22 research centers around the world have a single obsession: innovating to provide our brands and consumers with the best of science and create unequalled beauty experiences that meet their infinitely diverse needs and aspirations. Our strength lies in the balance between economic power and scientific excellence, with over 725 patents filed in 2025. The departement in charge of beauty devices development, "Augmented Beauty" operates in France, the US and China. Its mission is to leverage technology to create disruptive, innovative and sustainable beauty products and services that address unmet consumers needs.
